ITHS Technology Access Grants
The ITHS is pleased to announce the opportunity to apply for modest "technology access"
grants. These grants will cover costs associated with the provision of services to you through
an ITHS-approved facility core, shared resource, or cost center. Click

Important Information About Changes to the GCRC Application and Scientific Review Process
The scientific review process is being centralized under the Institute for Translational
Health Sciences (ITHS), the new federal funding for the clinical research centers at UW
and Children's (click
here for more info). Beginning in February, investigators will submit their
applications to the ITHS rather than to either the adult or pediatric SAC. The ITHS will
then distribute the applications to each SAC. The review process will become much simpler
and more streamlined for investigators. The University of Washington SAC will not change
membership, leadership, or structure.
We will be posting the contact information and instructions for SAC application
submission to the ITHS as soon as it becomes available. In the meantime please continue
to submit your applications to the GCRC@u.washington.edu.
As well, there will be no meeting of the Scientific Advisory Committee (SAC) for the
General Clinical Research Center in January, 2008, as we will be transitioning the unit to
the Institute of Translational Health Sciences. The next meeting will be in February,
2008, with applications due February 1, 2008. If this delay causes a significant hardship
for you please contact the GCRC administrative director,
Toni Long,
and we may be able to arrange an ad hoc review. We apologize for this inconvenience.
The General Clinical Research Center (GCRC) is a university-wide
resource funded by the National Institutes of Health to support peer-reviewed
clinical investigations or other funded research involving human subjects. Applications
to use the GCRC undergo scientific peer review and if accepted, investigators have access
to a variety of free
services.
Our goal is to help investigators carry out studies faster
and more easily while ensuring the highest level of subject
safety and data integrity. We are here to help the translation of scientific ideas of all
kinds to the clinic. Our success is measured by the number of medical advances we facilitate,
the amount of quality clinical data that is made available to the public domain via
publications by investigators we support, but most of all by making sure all subjects who
volunteer in clinical trials are treated safely, with respect and gratitude for their
contributions.

We are pleased to announce the addition of the Center for Clinical Genomics to the GCRC.
The goal of the Center for Clinical Genomics (CCG)
is to facilitate human genetics studies at UW and CHRMC by providing expertise in areas of
experimental design, logistical coordination, genetics technology, tissue banking and
storage.

We invite applications for use of GCRC facilities. While priority is given to investigators supported by the NIH, projects funded by other peer-reviewed sources are eligible as well. Start here.

We conduct many different types of studies on the GCRC. Our volunteers are people with
serious diseases, healthy volunteers of all ages, even infants. People willing to
volunteer for medical research studies aid in the development of better approaches to
diagnose, treat, and even prevent disease. We thank them!
