Medicine Residency Program Research Rotation
Second- and third-year Medicine residents at the University of Washington have the opportunity to
participate in research elective blocks lasting 1 or 2 months. Up to 4 months of elective time may
be devoted to this program during the three years of residency training. This program is described
more completely on the Medicine Residency Program web
site.
The GCRC supports this program in two ways. The first is to provide an annually updated
list of faculty
members who have agreed to serve as mentors for interested residents. This list includes
complete contact information and a brief description of each faculty member’s research interests.
Residents are free to approach individuals from this list, or other faculty members, to guide them in
doing either patient-oriented or basic clinical research. The second way in which the GCRC supports the
Resident’s Research Elective is by providing individual consultation in biostatistics, informatics, and
the design of both oral and poster research presentations. Interested residents may contact
D. Scott Weigle, M.D.,
the Associate Program Director to arrange for these services.
