GCRC Policies — Ancillary Funds to Support Investigator Initiated Studies
The GCRC offers many services at no charge to the investigator. There are also services that
may be requested by the investigator, that if approved by the Scientific Advisory Committee,
will be provided at no additional charge (e.g. patient meals, DXA scans).

In addition to these services, the GCRC has a limited amount of discretionary funding to assist
investigators in conducting their studies. These ancillary funds can be used to pay for
additional studies that are not covered by the cost of the grant, such as unusual lab tests,
unexpected costs, or laboratory tests requested by regulatory agencies after review. Typically,
requests for ancillary funds range from $200-$2,500/year on any individual study. Please note,
if your ancillary request is greater than $3000 in any year, please call our administrator
before you submit your application.
Because our ancillary funds are quite limited, we give priority to certain categories of
investigators for this type of additional support.
- Investigators whose GCRC studies are funded by K23 awards, particularly those administered by NCRR
- Investigators whose GCRC studies are funded by other clinical K awards
- Investigators who have never been awarded ancillary funds, particularly investigators who have never used the GCRC before
- Investigators whose studies are using a clinical reagent that was produced in our cGMP Gene and Cell Therapy Core Laboratory
Investigators who have received ancillary funding in the past may request ancillary funding,
but requests will be considered as lower priority. If an established investigator requests
supplemental ancillary funds for a study, an explanation must be provided of why services
requested were not covered by current study funding. Only unusual circumstances (e.g. specific
test requested by regulatory agency after grant was funded) could potentially merit support.
Decisions to award ancillary funding will be made by the Scientific Advisory Committee at the
time of scientific review.
