Leukapheresis Procedures on the GCRC —What if my patient DOES NOT have adequate venous access?

For vascular access prior to apheresis, the options include:

  • A Short Hickman catheter may be placed by Dr. Hickman at the SCCA.
  • A temporary catheter or short Hickman catheter or Mahurkar catheter can be placed at the UWMC by Surgery.
  • On a more urgent basis, it is possible that the Nephrology fellow could assist with placement of a temporary catheter that could be used for apheresis.
