UW Pilot Study Funding
Do you need pilot funding to conduct preliminary work in order to submit a competitive
peer-reviewed grant for a full clinical research study? Here are some programs for which

GCRC Pilot Grant Program

Once yearly, applications due in the fall |
Supports UW faculty for 1-year projects that will use GCRC resources. Designed to support pilot
research with a good possibility of yielding the preliminary data necessary for the development
of larger research grant requests to external funding agencies and/or pilot research in developing
cell or gene therapy products for use in patients. Up to three pilot projects will be funded at a
maximum budget of $25,000.

Supports UW faculty seeking to establish new research programs. Typically, 35 to 40 awards are made each funding cycle, or 70 to 80 each year. |

The CNRU supports three full Pilot and Feasibility (P/F) grants and two "mini" P/F grants annually. The full grants provide funding up to $25,000 annually for a maximum of 2 years. The "mini-grants" provide up to $10,000 for one year, non-renewable. P/F awards are designed to provide support for junior investigators. All grants must have nutrition relevance.
The CNRU also has a New Investigator award with salary support.

Alcohol and Drug Abuse Institute Small Grants Program

Supports UW faculty for research in substance abuse. The principal goal of the Small Grants Program is to stimulate research by providing initial funding for promising pilot projects which may ultimately be developed into full research studies with outside grant support. Drug abuse research is interpreted broadly to include a full range of topics from basic studies of the pharmacology of drugs of abuse to studies of clinical treatment strategies, prevention, and social policy issues. The current limit for funding is $20,000. |
